Meta AI’s layoff: 600 on non-working notice; company pivots to hire ‘AI-native’ talent

Meta has placed 600 Superintelligence Labs employees on non-working notice period until November 21, with severance packages including 16 weeks pay plus additional compensation based on tenure. Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang announced the layoffs target legacy AI infrastructure, FAIR unit, and product teams, while sparing elite TBD Labs hires. The restructuring aims to streamline decision-making in Meta’s bloated AI operations. Affected workers retain benefits during their notice period and can pursue internal positions through expedited hiring. Meta’s AI workforce now stands at under 3,000 employees.
